Dear Senator
I am writing to you in relation to the banning of the import of lion trophy into Australia ratified by the Honourable Mr Greg Hunt, Minister for the Environment earlier this year and the disallowance motion being tabled by Senator Leyonhjelm on Monday 15 June 2015.

If you vote to lift this ban then you will be personally supporting the captive lion breeders of South Africa, further you will be saying that the following things are more than acceptable;

  1. Captive breeding of lion for the bullet, involving the removal of week old cubs from their mothers and their habituation, ensuring that they will never contribute to the conservation of their species

  2. The killing of hand-reared lions, which do not display any normal fear of humans and are therefore sitting targets, a little like shooting fish in a barrel

  3. The conning of young Australian (and other nations’) tourists into paying significant amounts of money to hand-rear lion cubs, ostensibly as a contribution to conservation

  4. Supporting lion bone trade to Laos, Vietnam and China and the hoodwinking of those countries’ citizens when the processed bone is passed off as tiger bone in various products.

Further, you will be sending a clear message that the decisions of the following airlines to stop carrying lion (and other animal) trophies due to public pressure was incorrect;

South African Airways
British Airways
Lufthansa
Singapore Airlines
Emirates.

This is a turning point and you can personally send a message that the abhorrent practise of ‘farming’ lion and the ‘hunting’ of these unfortunate creatures has no place in a civilised world. Clearly, these initiatives are being taken because global public opinion against trophy hunting continues to increase.

Please cast your no vote in relation to the disallowance motion that Senator Leyonhjelm is tabling on Monday 15 June 2015, your voting public will have great respect for your courage.

Wow, i don't understand how anyone could kill a lion, or elephant or rhino, its just mind boggling. They're beautiful and wild and should be free.....but these canned lions are hand reared, often treated really cruelly, but they are used to humans....and they're in fenced yards. They cant run, they're penned for death, canned ro be hunted. Can you imagine that? Hunters just shoot them. They're targetted and shot, just like that. Please, don't let these tropheys into this country, we are better than that. Lions should be free and wild, not on someone's wall. Please, be compassionate and do what you can to stop this, i know it wont stop it all together, but every bit helps to keep some of them at least alive. If all country's banned trophys, then there would be no use killing them. They deserve your help, please, i beg you, be compassionate and respectful of these beautiful animals that only have voices of the people that give a damn. Please, be one of those people and be their voice, help them to live.

I am a game ranger in South Africa, and people do not realize what is happening with the hunting of captive bread lions (canned lion hunting).
The lionesses bread constantly, more then what their bodies can handle and shortens their life span to 4years, instead of 20years for captive lions. To get to the sad part this goes two ways.
1. They feed the lions off a pickup and on a normal day the lion thinks its feeding time as he approaches the vehicle the hunter shoots the animal off the pickup.
2. The lion is in a small enclosure where they sedate the lions hunter walks in and murders the lion.
Now where is the pride in that how can it be called a trophy?
Lions are the Apex predator in the african bush not human there is no reason to muder in a couardly way, it is wrong and it is sad to say people can't see the damage they are causing by supporting any related activity. The future of wildlife is in our hands and we need to take charge before its to late.

Roan would you mind going to Senator Leyonhjelm's Facebook page and saying what you said above? This is the link. https://www.facebook.com/DavidLeyonhjelmLiberalDemocrats?fref=ts

It needs to come from someone on the ground.

Hi Roan,
It is so good to hear from someone who has had direct experience of these matters. Could i quote your remarks please? i am protesting about trophy hunting on a site run by Kendall Jones, a young texan woman who promotes her you tube show with regular postings of all the animals she hunts. many of her supporters see nothing wrong with canned hunting or trophy shooting of animals in Africa if they pay for it. i think it is an awful practice and your remarks about the treatment of the lions is one very compelling reason why this should not be allowed to continue.

Please do not stoop to this level of archaic barbarism.....Australia;
people who hunt need psychiatric help not encouragement in their anti-social behaviour..killing comes from childhood brutality and parent behaviour and is taught to be O.K to the next generation - is this what a country aspires to promote in Her People?

Where are your morals and values? We should never be afraid to do what is right, especially if the well being of a voiceless animals is at stake. Society's punishment is small compared to the wounds we will inflict on our souls when we look the other way. This is barbaric and unnecessary and we should NOT look the other way when it comes a sport so heinous.

These beautiful big cats were on this planet long before we were and they have just as much of a right to be here as we do. This barbaric killing of them in the name of greed and lust for blood and money is a total disgrace to the entire human race and across all species. This earth is becoming way too cruel for me and because of it, I look forward to taking my last dying breath when it is my
time.... And when it ends, I hope to be in a place where there are those many beautiful big cats who were never granted their right to live here, living there free, uninhibited, joyful, and safe from all harm, never to be hurt, maimed or killed EVER again. ONLY then will I be at peace knowing my cat brothers and sisters are safe and sound and truly loved.

Please good people, take a few minutes and comment directly on Senator Leyonhjelm's Facebook page. There are so many people on there who don't have a clue about the truth of canned hunting. This is the link: https://www.facebook.com/DavidLeyonhjelmLiberalDemocrats?fref=ts

To whom it may concern,

Stop this barbaric act immediately! Instead of spending thousands on killing these poor creatures spend that money on saving these creatures!
