CITES a model of bureaucratic waste

If you were under the naive impression that CITES was anything but a massive waste of money, then read this and weep.

An excellent exposition of how and why CITES is so utterly useless.

A lengthy, technical piece by an independent legal researcher, but well worth the time to read.

No wonder the number of endangered species grows by the day.

Most 'hunting/sport' chasing killing culling ANY NAME TO PRETEND HIDE OR BULLSHIT what they're actually doing. Killing , chasing, hunting, terrifying, maiming and culling all beautiful creatures/animals , for the SOLE PURPOSE OF HUMAN (cowardly brutal) sport .

What I don't understand is, the girl above states they have spend $160,000. They state for conservation, well why not just donate the money to a good cause rather then commit a murder. As normal these people just don't understand and ARE the CON in conservation.

I have long ago lost faith in Cites. They appear to have lost their backbone by surrendering to the powerful canned/trophy/sport hunting industries. Await expectantly to see whether they cow tow to SA's lobbying to legalise the one off rhino trade. Not holding my breath however.

Its sickening to what extent man will go to cover the tracks of the love for a blood thirsty sick sport of cruelty showing compassion for nothing in his path

Let's be clear, killing wild or captive animals has NOTHING to do with conservation. This is a multi million dollar industry that makes a few people very rich. Real conservation comes from money raised through photographic safaries and similar activities, and government's enforcing laws against illegal trade in animal parts. CITES is obviously run by the same people profiting off the killing of these magnificent creatures.

End canned hunts and the hunting of all endangered animals worldwide. Conservation, harvesting are just fancy words to justify the murder of our wildlife. Stop this NOW.

CITES, UN, WFO, WHO, etc all these organizations need serious reforms if they mean anyrhing...just like religions. As far as i;m concerned and i hold no formal credentials in ecology, so if the entire planet is endangered therefore all living beings on Earth are highly endangered...every little living thing, period. No more trade of endangered species, close down CITES, just ban trophy hunting all over the world and let's work seriously on how to preserve the remaining wilderness of our Planet.

Amen Mwana and Karen
Aren't we all sick of hearing how the only reason these sickos destroy magnificent animals is to alleviate poverty. As if any significant portion of that blood money gets to the disadvantaged people who really need it.

I am so sick of reading about this vile piece of garbage. At least there is one good thing that has come out of it. To expose CITES and what a total failure they are. Quit hiding behind desks, and start doing your job!

Is it all CITES are interested in? Making money no matter what. What type of person can appreciate and enjoy killing a life wonderful creation from God and that for any reason. Please stop using the fact that you are trying to help other animals as a reason. Corruption uses any excuse to make a bug or two.

Yes we have to. Those wonderful animals-all of them- are also our heritage. Every single life is unique. We have to find a way to protect them

All farming, trophy hunting and trade of Endangered Species or their body parts should be stopped now. CITES should be converted from a toothless 'regulator' of trade in Endangered Species to an International Organisation of Protection of Endangered Species. The senseless demand should be eliminated through high profile, global, demand elimination campaigns broadcast across all media.
